On November 1st, 1979, HMY Yacht Sales was formed; rented a floating office in Fort Lauderdale, hired its first employee, and set out to build a successful yacht sales firm. Forty-three years later, HMY is thriving! Currently, with 13 sales locations from Ocean Reef, Florida to Newport, Rhode Island, 50+ sales professionals, and dedicated team members, HMY handles all aspects of yacht sales, service, charter, and yacht management.
Steve Moynihan first broke into the marine industry with a position at a yacht multiple listing firm in 1975. His first week on the job was at the Miami Boat Show. Steve’s position at the MLS eventually opened doors into yacht brokerage and then in 1977 when the license law required applicants to be 21 years old, Steve started a career in yacht sales.
In just two short years, Steve co-founded HMY Yacht Sales, and today is the sole owner. “I wasn’t nervous about going on my own,” he quips. “I didn’t know any better.”
HMY has 12 locations, 4 services locations, and a team of over 90 dedicated sales, support, and service people.
Many of the HMY brokers grew up in family-owned marine businesses whether yacht builders, captains, or dealers and naturally gravitate towards the same kind of company. It means a lot to our team to work at a company where loyalty and respect for one another are part of the foundation of our business. It also shows our customers HMY cares about the people who help make our business a success. Our customers see this and continue their boating relationship with HMY year after year.
My wife and I recently purchased a used custom sport fishing boat through HMY Yacht Sales in Stuart, Florida. Scott Levin, the yacht broker, demonstrated unparalleled expertise with boats of this type and was exceptionally knowledgeable on every aspect. He patiently guided us through multiple inspections over several months and managed every detail from negotiations to closing. Scott exceeded all expectations, even delivering the boat to our home when travel restrictions due to Covid-19 prevented us from doing so.
